Hi everyone, I am Madhushan, the founder of this blog.
The desire to own a pet first sprouted in me when I was nine years old. I was in second grade back then. In the street that connected my house and school, there was a big Banyan tree.
For those who don’t know what a Banyan tree is – The Banyan tree is a type of fig native to India and Pakistan. Banyan trees can reach a height of up to 100 feet and spread laterally almost infinitely.
When a banyan seed falls on another tree’s branch and survives there, it starts growing, sending its roots down to the ground from the branch. These roots eventually reach the host tree’s trunk and interlock and tangle with it, competing for resources. As the banyan tree grows, it spreads laterally, sending more roots to the ground to support it. This invasion of territory often kills the host tree, while the invading banyan tree, a massive collection of roots, grows to become tall and wide.
Anyway, back to the story, this banyan tree near my school – Its main branch/trunk was more than five meters in diameter. One day, I dreamt that there was an elephant, a horse, and a dog walking on the road leading to my school. Sitting on the elephant was none other than the 9-year-old version of me lifting my right hand above my head. And on my right hand, I was holding something – And that something was this banyan tree.
This dream might sound super dramatic, but it was so livid that I remember it even today, almost 25 years later. When I woke up from the dream, I went to my father and asked him to buy me a pet. I told him I wanted a dog, a horse, or an elephant. He could choose one of these, but my vote was for the elephant.
My dad replied, “I already have a pet monkey, and I don’t have enough money or time to take care of it. So, I can’t afford another pet. By the way, if it isn’t clear already, that pet is you.” Since then, I have always wanted a pet.
Now, I have a stable job and a caring wife. However, my desire to own a pet hasn’t gone away. But I am not sure if I will be responsible and take care of a big pet like a dog or a cat. So, I decided to start with a small pet like a hamster.
But instead of buying a hamster and finding out everything about it later on, I decided to find out how to care for a pet hamster and then buy one. That’s how this blog originated. I started this blog in November 2021. As of April 2023, I still haven’t purchased a hamster, even though I have become more knowledgeable about owning a hamster, and my blog has grown.
Hopefully, I will soon be able to purchase a hamster and share more about how my life changes, very soon.
Edit 13. 05. 2023: My wife and I have bought a hamster. You can find our hamster journal in a later part of this page: Hamsters
